I wrote this one day on the bus while looking out the window

Meditations Out the Window

Face pressed against the glass

Coolness sucking away the fever of my forehead

Watching my progress along the side of the road

Watching as I go over hill and into valley

On my two wheels, first climbing to a height

A grass covered mound that reaches for the sky

Then a deep sharp plunge, down and out below my sight

My heart skips a bit was we continue at our speed and I twitch to see

But a quick rapid escalation up the incline and a jump over the ramp

Caused by the drainpipe sticking out and I jump over the lane way.

Landing on the other side, into the ditch, just my helmet sticking out

As I race along, now needing to catch up

Then climbing out of the ditch and hitting the fence

Popping high in the air and spinning in the air landing again wheels down

And starting to accelerate along the two inch wide board of the fence.

Hop stepping every 12 feet over the posts and picking up the pace to keep up with me.

We continue our progress, deep into a valley that becomes a river

My two wheels sprout skis and I skim over the surface of the water

Then I reach the shore, gunning my gear to get me up the side

And I continue to climb again to the height of the road

And I start to nod off, struggling to keep my eyes open

The sound of the engine droning on in low white noise

And I fall asleep
